How To Fix Menu/ Navigation Buttons & Power/ Volume Buttons Not Working Issue On Xiaomi Redmi Devices
To enable/ fix buttons on Xiaomi, you need to follow the following methods. Make sure your device has enough battery life before trying this tutorial.
01. Disable and Re-enable Buttons
- Darg the notification bar to the bottom of the screen.
- Tap the Sort Button.
- Find the Buttons option from the list.
- Tap Buttons to disable buttons.
- Tap Buttons again to enable buttons.
- Check if the buttons are working now.
02. Reboot To Recovery Mode
In your Redmi device, you can reboot your device into recovery mode to fix many common problems. Most of the time, you can fix the buttons not working issue in your Redmi device by using this method.
This method will not erase any of your data. So, you don’t need to worry about the data on your device. Please follow the steps below.
- Go to Device Settings.
- Tap About Phone.
- Tap System Update.
- Tap 3 small dots at the top right corner of the update screen. (Check Step 4 Screenshot)
- Tap Reboot to Recovery mode. (Check Step 5 Screenshot)
- Tap Reboot after the recovery screen appears. (Use the Volume buttons to go up/down, Use power button to select any option) (Check Step 6 Screenshot)

It can take 1-5 minutes for your device to reboot. So, check if it fixes the buttons not working issue of your device after rebooting.
03. Update Your Device
Updating your Redmi device can fix the problem. You can check for the latest updates by going to the System Updates menu.
- Go to Device Settings.
- Select About Phone.
- Tap System Update.
- Tap Check for Updates.
- Install the latest update if any new update is available.
04. Use Quick Ball Instead Of Default Buttons
Xiaomi [Redmi, MI] devices also come with an option called Quick ball. It helps you operate/ navigate on your device without using any buttons.
So, if any of the methods mentioned above is not working, you can use the quick ball as an alternative way to use your device without purchasing a new device because of the buttons not working issue.
To turn on the quick ball on your device, follow the steps below.
- Go to Device Settings.
- Click Additional Settings from the settings.
- Tap the Quick Ball option in the menu.
- Click to turn on Quick Ball and now you can see a translucent circle on the right.
05. Factory Reset Your Device
If you are still facing this issue, we suggest you factory reset your Xiaomi Redmi device because it can fix all the software related issues of your device.
Warning: keep in mind you will lose all the data if you do a factory reset. So, make sure to take a backup of your data before resetting.
- On your Redmi phone, find and launch the Settings app.
- Tap General Settings.
- Tap Backup & reset.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Next, you can decide if you want to remove the downloaded apps and the contents in the external SDcard.
- Once you’re ready, tap Reset phone.
Then, leave your phone for a few minutes, and it will automatically reboot after the progress.
If you are still facing the same issue after applying all the fixes, it is probably a hardware issue. So, bring your phone to a repair centre to check any hardware issue on your device.
